Liquid Monk – ‘Nighttime’

Liquid Monk have become a name in the Detroit music scene synonymous with instrumental virtuosity, genre bending creativity, and energetic live performances. Integrating an array of live instrumentation alongside electronics, the group has redefined how organic and electronic elements can blend to bring the excitement of a live band along with the texture and dance groove of a producer or DJ.

With a diverse pool of lyricists, they realized a vision of merging their jazz and fusion roots with electronic music and the vocal power of pop, hip hop and R&B. The band acts as a producer showcasing the unique talents of each collaborator while also creating a sonic landscape that can only be described as Liquid Monk. Their upcoming self-titled debut LP is due out this Autumn. Liquid Monk is Eric “Fil” Fillip (Drums, Percussion), Dan Gruszka (Guitar, Synth, Electronics), Michael Leonard (Guitar, Synth) and Omar Taji (Keyboards, Synth Bass).

Speaking on the new track ‘Nighttime’ Liquid Monk states: We had been looking to write an original with Kameryn since we began performing with her last summer. After we laid ‘Nighttime’ in the studio, it seemed like the perfect vibe for her songwriting and vocal style. We played it for her and she immediately connected with it. She was going through some personal struggles in her life and on the spot she wrote the lyrics that “are about the confusion and longing I was feeling about someone close who was in a position where they couldn’t be there when I needed them to be”.

The repetitious, escalating nature of the verses mimic how ones’ mind can keep replaying the same thoughts while in an emotional state. The newest release from the Detroit collective continues to mark Liquid Monk as one of the most innovative and sophisticated acts coming out of the city right now.

Introducing Stefflon Don featuring French Montana

Dancehall/rap artist Stephanie Allen (aka Stefflon Don) switches between dancehall patois, grime verses, and honeyed vocals with ease and confidence. Originally born in Birmingham to Jamaican parents, Allen moved to the Netherlands at five years old.

Her family remained in Holland for nine years before moving to Clapton, East London when she was 14. As Allen grew older she knew she wanted to pursue music, taking on the initial strategy of covering other artists’ work and spinning it in new directions; the first two examples that got traction came in 2015, when Allen covered Wretch 32’s “Six Words” and Section Boyz’ “Lock Arff.” As Allen became noticed, she collaborated with a number of prominent artists, including Lethal Bizzle, Sneakbo, Jeremih, and Wretch 32 on his 2016 album Growing Over Life. 2016 also saw the release of her debut mixtape, Real Ting, which featured Jeremih returning the favor as a guest artist. As 2016 drew to a close, Stefflon Don was highlighted on the BBC’s Sound of 2017 list. The following year, Allen signed to Universal Music, whereby they created a new subsidiary, 54 London, and made her the first signee. Artist Biography by Liam Martin

Cilla Raie – I Ain’t Got Time Ft Jammin, C Cane and Double S

Singer/Songwriter Cilla Raie is back with a bold new single ‘I Aint Got Time’ produced by Sami Dolla. The record features three of the UK’s critically claimed rappers Jammin MC, C Cane and Double S. The record boasts confidence from Cilla expressing her lack of time and interest in ‘time-wasters’.
The single follows her last release ‘Masterpiece’ produced by Joey Dyer (Iggy Azalea – Fancy, Katy B, Conor Maynard), which was released via VEVO and exclusively premiered by MOBO Awards with support from BBC Radio 1Xtra and Link Up TV, the record has since racked up over 22,000 plays.
Taking inspirations from the likes of Aaliyah, Brandy and Toni Braxton Cilla Raie began recording music at just 14-years-old, with grime producer DaVinche being one of her key mentors during the early stages of her musical journey. The ‘I Aint Got Time’ video is set to be explosive and is set to be out in August, following with Cilla’s second EP to be released early 2018.
