Album: We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service

A Tribe Called Quest is releasing their new album on November 11th, and they have collaborated with a variety of music’s biggest names on the record. Titled We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service, the record features collaborations with Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Elton John, Busta Rhymes, and others.

Earlier this year Phife Dawg passed away, but as Q-Tip said, he left the group with “the blueprint of what we had to do”. The album was announced by Q-Tip via hand-written note on Facebook just two weeks ago. A new article via The New York Times has given some background to the album.

One distinguishable feature about the record, is everyone who worked on it came to the studio under Q-Tip’s request. Before his death, Phife Dawg commuted twice a month from California to the New Jersey-based studio to record. And apparently, it was Jack White’s presence that got everything going, as Q-Tip said as soon as White arrived, “We recorded so many tracks and ideas”…”It’s one of those scenarios where we’re so excited to finally get to work together that it was exploding in a whole different direction. We really didn’t know what we were doing, it was just a ‘hurry up and press record’ kind of moment.” Apparently White didn’t even bring a guitar to the studio, “He just took a guitar off the wall and plugged it in and just got his wizard on.”
