Kristinia DeBarge
Kristinia Debarge proves why She’s worth the wait. DeBarge has been absent in the U.S. since the release of her Top 40 debut album, Exposed, in 2009. She released the project, Young & Restless, in 2013, but it was exclusive to her Japan fans. The set included the single “Ten Billion Years.”

Kristinia knew she wanted to be a singer at the age of three. She grew up listening to strong female vocalists like Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, and Alicia Keys. She credits Mariah Carey, Prince and Aaliyah as her musical inspiration. As a young girl, Kristinia had big dreams of being a singer but kept it from her father until he took her into a recording studio at age twelve. They worked until 4 A.M. recording a duet, which made him realize she was serious about beginning a singing career. “When I started singing, I really fell in love with the whole idea of a being a star and later realized it’s more about the music, inspiring people, telling my story, and connecting with others…I feel grateful every day that I get to wake up and do what I love to do,” DeBarge says, now at 24 years old. At thirteen, she appeared on American Juniors, a younger version of the wildly successful American Idol. She made it to the Top 20. At fourteen, Kristinia met Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and spent the next four years developing her voice and writing skills. At nineteen, Kristinia signed a record deal with Sodapop/Island Def Jam.

Her debut album, “Exposed” was released on July 28, 2009. The album debuted at number 23 on Billboard’s top 200. Her first single, “Goodbye” debuted at number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and later reached number 15 on the charts. And in Canada, it reached number 15 on the Canadian Hot 100. The single went Gold twice, later reaching platinum status, selling over 2 millions copies to date.

Kristinia’s second single, “Sabotage,” was sent to radio a week before the release of “Exposed.” The remix of “Future Love” (featuring Pitbull) was released as the third single. This remixed version was released on November 2, 2009 in the UK and November 10, 2009 in the US. “Exposed” received positive reviews from major critical websites, such as Blues & Soul, People Magazine, and AllMusic. Kristinia opened up for pop singer Britney Spears, during the 2009 world tour, “The Circus Starring: Britney Spears” and received an NAACP Image Award nomination for “Outstanding Artist.” In November 2009, The Wet Seal, Inc., a leading specialty retailer to young women, announced a partnership with Kristinia.

Kristinia has also had the fortune of being cast as Anastasia, lead female role in a film written and directed by Nick Cannon entitled “School Dance”. This film stars George Lopez, Wilmer Valderrama, Kevin Hart, Bobb’e J Thompson, Mike Epps, Amber Rose, The Rangers and was released in January of 2013.

She enjoys being a mentor to young girls emerging in the music industry. “I can’t wait to go on my own tour one day and look forward to having a young female atrist open up for me so I can tell her ‘you got this girl and I’m supporting you all the way’ because being a mentor is so awesome,” she says. The relationship with these artists inspired her to create an album entitled “Young & Restless,” which was exclusively released to Japan in May 2013 under Manhattan Records. “[Creating this album] made me realize I couldn’t do anything else but sing and perform, which I’m glad [I did] because I’m the happiest I have ever been,” she says. This album did not stray away from her debut album. It shows the growth from a young nineteen year old girl to a twenty-two year old young women who wants her fans to see she is growing. “I’m not this full-on woman just yet–I will get there…I just want my fans to see that I’m just like them, young, fun and I don’t have it all figured it out,” she says.

She independently released a single entitled “Cry Wolf.” The music video was featured on VEVO and received over 94,000 views in less than 24 hours. She is also featured on Redrama’s latest single, “Let Go,” which went #1 in Finland.

Currently, Kristinia and her team, which spans across the US, are getting ready to release her single in fall of 2014.
