The Universal Zulu Nation is an organization created by proto-hip hop icon Afrika Bambaaataa, aiming to use the genre to spread awareness of social and political issues. Many rappers have adopted the cause since its inception in the 70s, with Rakim, KRS-One, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and De La Soul identifying as members.
Chrisette Michele opens Rich Hipster Record Label and secures distribution with Caroline/Capitol Music Group. Rich Hipsters first EP “The Lyricists Opus” slated for release, November 24th with lead single “Together”, written by Chrisette Michele and produced by Justin Lyons. The accompanying music video features direction from Derek Blanks. This release is the follow-up behind Michele’s 2013 Grammy nominated album “Better”. Menno wins the 2014 Red Bull BC One b-boy competition, which took place in Paris, France. Menno Van Gorp represents the new generation of Dutch B-Boys. He is a dancer with heart and explosive energy and promises to surprise. He is a master of smooth blow-ups. Blow-ups are the mind-boggling moves that whip the audience into a frenzy. His signature moves are baby-freeze transitions, slides and rolls.
MENNO started breaking around 2001. The first time he saw breaking was in the Run DMC video clip “It’s Like That.” He learned his first moves from his cousins and has been dancing ever since.
