Elijah Blake – Strange Fruit (Video Premiere)

Very few artists are just as good at creating amazingly vivid and passionate scenes with their voices, as they are with their words—Elijah Blake, at 22 is one of the few. Standing a part from the manufactured acts produced by today’s entertainment industry, Elijah Blake is a refreshing dose of vocal and dancing ability, hit song writing talent, and personal conviction that icons are made of. http://www.elijahblake.com

Video: Mila J – My Main ft. Ty Dolla $ign

Mila J fancied her musical styling in the same light as her singing and rapping idols TLC and Missy Elliott. Add to her singing and rapping combo her passion for dancing and ability to write song lyrics, and it seemed apparent that this Los Angeles native aimed to achieve the same level of acclaim and prosperity as those same pop icons of hers. Born of black, Japanese, and Native American descent, Mila J (real name Jamila Chilumbo) started rapping, according to the singer, at the age of four, inspired by a deep admiration for the Fat Boys and the ’80s cult hip-hop movie Krush Groove.

Because her father was a studio musician, the music bug was in the rest of her family as well, namely her sisters Jhené and Miyoko. Her break into the music industry occurred at the age of nine when she met the owner and CEO of The Ultimate Group, Chris Stokes, at a video shoot for his group Immature; in addition, she also caught Stokes’ attention with her appearance in Prince’s “Diamond and Pearls” video in 1991. Mila J went on to dance professionally for Stokes and Immature between the ages of 12 and 15. Along with Miyoko, she was a member of the Stokes-driven Gyrl, who released singles for Silas/MCA. Several years later, she was part of the shorter-lived Dame Four, yet another Stokes venture. She then went solo. Her petite vocals could be heard on the 2006 singles “Complete” and the charting “Good Lookin’ Out,” which built up anticipation for her debut album, Split Personality, released via Universal that November. After going by the name Japollonia, she reappeared on Motown as Mila J with the 2014 single “Smoke, Drink, Break-Up.”

Nicki Minaj to host 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards

Minaj confirmed the announcement on her Instagram last night saying “So excited to announce that I will not only perform, but I have the honorable task of hosting this year’s MTV European Music Awards!Which is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland on November 9th.

As well has hosting and performing at the awards, Minaj has also been nominated in four categories including Best Female, Best Hip Hop, Biggest Fans and Best Look (something which reminds us bizarrely of the Blackadder episode where he wins a local election by being the election agent, acting returning officer and voter). Polling has now begun on mtvema.com and will close on 8 November.

Earlier this month Minaj announced the release date on The Pinkprint on Twitter, explaining to MTV News that the name is referred to Jay Z’s The Blueprint as she is “obsessed” with Hov.

The album will be released via Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Public Records. In her interview with Carson Daly, Minaj announces: “I just have to say that I’m at such a different place as a human being. I know artists say that all the time but now I understand why. Nothing really surprises me anymore. I handle things more maturely. Just writing wise I can put my thoughts together better I feel. So sonically I think the album sounds so amazing. And there are so many surprises on the album.”
